Oh my to do List is Growing!

So, I didn't make it to the store this weekend (lalalalazy). Now on my first vacation day, I'll be up and at it at 5:oo A.M., but I'll still love every minute of it. My grocery list grows longer as I write this blog. Tomorrow will be funfunfun in the kitchen for me. I have casserole's galore to prepare and even a pie and a huge piece of meat to tend to. The best part is sharing all these traditions and new dishes with some of my best friends and I get to share in their traditions as well (something called a million dollar pie, who knew of such a thing). I will be missing my family terribly this Thanksgiving, but I am excited at the new one awaiting me. This will be the first time I've spent the holidays away from my family ever in the history of Lisa and I will be sad at their absence. But I must say this does not effect my excitement in the least. I know Tim and I will have a grand ole' time eating and laughing. I get to actually enjoy my husband for once on some really special days. In the past I missed him during this season. We would both spread ourselves out and have nothing left for each other but goodnight kisses. But not this year...He's mine, all mine!

***Note to my family: Do not worry! Tim and I will have plenty to eat and this includes all the serious Thanksgiving basics plus some. We will be thinking of you as we give thanks for all we have been blessed with. We love you! I will be posting every detail of this Thanksgiving; therefore, you won't miss a beat.

I'm not calling for a second chance, I'm screaming at the top of my voice!

Sometimes, I have to tell myself "remember how you feel right now and don't lose that feeling". It doesn't happen everyday, only sometimes. This is precisely why I'm writing about it. I need to remember. It feels as though thousands of butterflies flutter their wings against my chest to be released. It feels warm like the sun beating down on my face on the first day of summer. It tastes like chocolate, the kind you lick from the bottom of the bowl. It smells like purple tulips which were planted in Washington Park just for me to pick. It feels like abundance, overflow, too much but all in a good way. Like having too much vacation or too much candy. It is being full of joy. As Tim told me this weekend, "You are full of Joy because you are your mother's daughter". Mmmmm, sweet. I hate to give out my thanks before Thanksgiving, so I won't. I only say that I feel very privileged to be in my shoes right now. I am surrounded by amazing people. I finally know who my true friends are. I know my family loves me to the bone. I have dreams that are yet to be filled, but I have the blueprints. I am healthy. I am healthy. I am healthy. I get to wake up to the most beautiful man I've ever laid eyes on. I live in it. It's quite intoxicating without being toxic at all. It is joyful.

The Maxfund-http://www.maxfund.org/

I am a lover of all animals except maybe alligators and snakes, but I can still appreciate and respect them as living creatures. I especially have a warm spot in my heart for puppies and kittens and pink bows. Our second puppy, Loretta (my other best friend), was adopted from PetSmart one Saturday afternoon when shopping for cat food. They got us! She reeled us in with her beautiful caramel eyes and Farrah Faucet like hair. She is truly one of the best dogs I could have asked for. She appreciates the love we share with her and the nurturing we provide for her. I love her so much. She has become a part of our Team Potassium family. In saying all this, I recommend for those searching for a furry friend to invite home, go the path less taken. Adopt! Some may think "But I want a certain breed." Trust me, you can find any dog you like with little effort.

Now I'll introduce The Max Fund. This is a not for profit, no kill animal shelter located here in Denver. This organization has many wonderful animals just waiting for the right family to go home with. They take in many animals on a weekly basis and rely on animal lovers to run their facility. If you would like to volunteer or donate or more importantly adopt an animal, check out their site: http://www.maxfund.org/.

And now for a new monthly blog feature:

Animal of the Month!
This first featured animal is a very special dog who was brought in by The Humane Society from Tao, New Mexico. Millie fended for her life on the streets for about eight months. The theory about Millie's past is that she was hit by a car which injured her spine and left no feeling in her back legs. So, she moved around the best she could, dragging herself around. Millie's condition upon her arrival looked very bleek. X-ray's revealed broken ribs and several b b's in her body. Millie has now found a family at The Max Fund. She receives the care she needs through physical therapy and neurology and just recently attained a mobility cart (specially created for her by Eddie's Wheels) to help her get on her feet, so to say. She is not currently up for adoption, but there are many others in need of a loving home. If you would like to find out more about Millie and her very special life check this site out: http://cbs4denver.com/pets/millie.dog.cart.2.869308.html

Oh Happy Friday!

So, Right off the bat I wake up in an excellent mood of course because it's Party Time Friday, kicking off that good good weekend! I just recently grew to love Friday's and everything they possess (thanks day job for allowing me to be a witness to this ongoing affair). But this weekend is especially fun for me because I get to go buy my Thanksgiving supplies early on Sunday and when I say early I mean early. If you don't get there by 8:00 a.m., the store is packed and they run out of things. This is a downfall to living in a city. Any who, I know it's weird but I love grocery shopping. The more packed the cart, the better. I especially love to shop for special meals for other people. And what's even better is they'll be playing Christmas music. Ahhh! I enjoy the time to be by myself and look at new items grocers have come out with and look in awe at the rising prices of food. Jeez! I also get to browse over to the home department and even take a peek at the Christmas section. Whee!

So, back to my Friday. I love this place.

That's right, Wholefoods! We never really had this option in Georgia and now I do. We only shop there occasionally, but it is so fun when we do. Tonight happens to be that night. We scour the entire store every time we go only to retire the journey with the few items we leave with.

Tonight's menu will consist of :

1. Chicken and Black Bean Nachos (with the works)

or

2. Shrimp and Sausage Cheese Grits (with lots of cheese)

Which one should we have?

This little thing has always tugged at my heart.

Keelie Lois Armstrong

She is probably the reason Tim and I don't have children. Not in a bad way though. She fills that part of my maternal side leaving me fulfilled. I loved being in the room when she was born, although, I wasn't much help, sorry D. I enjoyed feeding her when she was un bebe and even changing the diapers on her cute little hieny. She grows daily into a beautiful young girl and I wish I was next to her to observe every minute.

Things I like about Keelie:

1. Her artwork: Some of the best I've ever seen. I have it all over my fridge.

2. Her acting: She was in Pinocchio and I was blown away by her acting skills! Seriously

3. Her dancing: She obviously gets that from me. We both can dance like it's nobody's business.

4. Her sweet sweet voice: I still have messages saved on my voicemail from her. Currently the one where she wished my a Happy B-Day! (Thanks Keelie)

5. Her fashion sense: Always on time with coordinating the "just right" outfit.

6. Her face: She truly is beautiful (looks just like her Momma).

7. How much she loves her baby brother, Lyric.

8. Just her: she loves art, sharing and is ridiculously smart. She loves her family so much and has the sweetest heart I've ever seen. She loves to give too. Whether it's a small note she has written or something she bought from "Santa's Shop" at school. She also loves helping in the kitchen, you know she can break an egg perfect. Not one shell in the mix.

I love you Keelie!

Best Friend 4 Life--Dusti aka My Sister

This is the only person I can talk on the phone for over an hour with and I did just that last night. We caught up on alot (and I mean alot) of gossip. We talked about her relationship, my relationship, family, friends, jobs and in the mean time she fended off a sick baby boy. She has always been my best friend, but even more so now that she is all the way across the country. She is truly missed. If there were just one thing I could do with her it would be to...Go to TwilaFaye's for Tea Time!

Where the heck is it?!?

Ok Denver, where is it? I was promised snow by Halloween and I got nothing! I want luscious fluffy snow darn it! I need to build a snow man. I need to learn how to ski. I need to roll a snow ball up and hit Tim with it. I need to see the look on Loretta's face when her little paws hit the cold wetness for the very first time. I need to take my Christmas pictures for cards. I need to snuggle up under a blanket and watch it fall out my window. I need to be kicked back with a movie and a cup of hot hot hot chocolate while being trapped in my home because of a blizzard. Please come soon.

My Potassium Partner

Good Morning Darling. I woke you this morning, only to find out you were not quite ready to see the sun. But just so you know it, you are my sunshine; therefore, my sun only rises when you do. I love you. I hope you have a wonderful day today. I love that you are a protector of animals. They need someone and they have found a true friend in you. I am truly blessed to be a part of your life. I look forward to the next moment we will catch each other's eye.

The First African American President

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, it happened!

The United States made History in electing Barack Hussein Obama for our next President.

Congratulations!

I vow to remember this day. In hopes, that I may share it with future generations. Just a few questions to jog my memory:

1. Where were you?

sitting on the couch at 68 Sherman Street #7 Denver, Co.

2. Who were you with?

Tim Crews (t-bone)

Biscuit Crews better known as B-Money or B-Boi

Loretta Crews aka Lo-Lo

3. How did you feel?

Honestly...indescribable, but I'll try anyway. I had chills for days recognizing what our country had just accomplished. I listened to stories of the civil rights movement and how much pain those who lived and fought through that time had gone through. I thanked God for allowing me to live in such a beautiful country. I do believe the United States of America has just evolved into a new country. One where anything is possible for all people. I feel privileged to be an American and share in this victory.

4. And what about the party?

Oh the party, well it was grand! We celebrated with mimosa's and appetizers.

a. chicken chili nacho dip

b. cheese and crackers

c. bbq chicken skewers

d. chips and salsa

e. pound cake bites

and then we finished off the night with some good ol' tears of joy.
